Chainani challenges the usual instruction to follow passion by beginning with demonstrated aptitude. Ask what you do better than almost anyone else, then look for careers that make that ability valuable. Ferriss adds that an existing strength can often be molded toward a subject that is exciting, whereas starting with a broad passion still requires years of skill development before it becomes useful. The filter therefore uses results, feedback, and comparative performance to identify an advantage; maps environments where that advantage matters; and tests combinations with genuine interests. Ability is a starting constraint, not a command: a career still needs to fit the person's values and life.

In the wild
