Treat every recording path as fallible and create independent alternatives before the interview begins. Tim keeps at least two remote-platform backups in the invitation, asks both participants to record local audio, and retains a recordable conference line that works if a computer fails. In person, he uses more than one recorder and may add an iPhone microphone. The mechanism is independence: backups should not share the same likely failure, so a platform outage, bad connection, computer problem, or defective storage card does not erase every copy. The fallback need not match studio fidelity; a usable simple recording is more valuable than a perfect system with one point of failure.

In the wild
Zencastr and other setup attempts failed before this recording, but Tim and Chris moved to Riverside while each also captured local QuickTime audio. A conference line remained available if the computers failed.
