A matrix is a substantial intellectual or practical structure into which smaller ideas can fit. Instead of keeping disembodied observations, choose an important domain and build a project, language, publication, or other durable body of work around it. Give that structure clear places for related findings, then attach each new idea to the relevant part. Wolfram describes his computational language as a matrix for ideas about representing the world computationally, and his writings as another matrix for historical studies. The mechanism is contextual accumulation: the larger structure preserves small insights, connects them to previous work, and makes them available for future development.
